Can you share a bit about your background and what brought you to Canada?
I’m originally from Nigeria, in West Africa. I moved to Canada in 2023 because I’m married to a Canadian. That was my main motivation for coming here—I wanted to be with my partner.
How did you first hear about A Few Good Lads, and what was the process like to start working with them?
I found A Few Good Lads on Indeed when I was looking for a job. I applied, and they called me for an interview. The process was really simple—we had a talk about my experience, and then they followed up with me, and I got the job.
What motivated you to pursue a career in the trades?
Back in Nigeria, I studied civil engineering at university. When I moved to Canada, I realized I needed to upgrade my skills to meet Canadian standards, so I’ve been working towards that. Right now, I work as skilled labor, but my background in civil engineering gives me a strong foundation for this field.
How has working in construction in Canada differed from your experience in Nigeria?
It’s not even comparable—it’s very different. The biggest difference is safety. In Canada, safety is a top priority, which is a major change from back home. The attention to safety here is impressive, and it’s something I’ve really come to value.
How have A Few Good Lads supported your professional journey, and how do they stand out from other companies you’ve worked with?
A Few Good Lads is different from other companies I’ve worked with. They’re very organized and clear with assignments, which I appreciate. I always know my schedule and what to expect. They also follow up on emails and messages and make sure everything runs smoothly. I feel supported in reaching my goals because they assign jobs that suit my skills and help me keep growing.
What do you enjoy most about living in Canada?
Canada has so much natural beauty—its lakes, forests, and clean air are some of the best in the world. The quality of life here is also amazing, with great healthcare, education, and safety. It’s a multicultural country, and I love how open and welcoming it is.
Have you picked up any new hobbies or interests since moving here?
I’ve always loved soccer—it’s my main hobby, and I’m pretty good at it. I hope one day A Few Good Lads organizes a soccer game. I don’t drink or smoke, so soccer has always been my favourite way to have fun.
What are your professional goals for the next few years?
I want to learn new skills, earn professional certifications, and become an expert in my field. I’m also focused on continuing to develop my knowledge and gaining experience in new areas. My goal is to grow and contribute to any organization I’m part of.
